This project started with the engine restoration. Its a 2.0 litre petrol engine.
Removed the engine from the vehicle, and stripped it to see what we have to do to it. The paintwork completed, two tone paint, orange and silver. Not the original colour, customer's choice, and i really like it! The shell is ready to be lifted onto the chassis, and the reassembling began. We used a "small" crane to do the hard work. :) It worked :D Its time to fit all components and complete the work...
The work completed now.....sorry ,but I didn't had chance to update the blog in the last few months...I do it now... The back end of the shell has been "repaired" previously....quite badly we had to consider what is the best to do to get the best result.... not much choice what can lead to the best: cut all the bad bits out and replace them ==> rebuild the back end: the pics shows why. Some more trimming work... We have to fit another ski slope, cause the manual conversion. Got one from a manual car, but black,so needed a new "coat". And the gear gaiter was also black and scruffy. Steering wheel...its a sporty one (Italvolanti) fitted by Lister, also a bit worn,so decided to have a frest "coat". The face panel of the instrument cluster had a leather cover,we decided to replace that one too,and a bit customized it with a few stitches... Here comes the pictures: Will be back soon..... :)
The original door cards off the car were in bad condition,so we agreed with the owner we will make new ones with new leather on the handles and pockets too,and because the car was modified by Lister in 1986,we decided to reproduce the door cards with a LISTER sign on them. Throughout the process all the metal parts were blasted and re painted, bits and bobs were zinc coated, rivets were replaced with new ones....All the works completed in our workshop. Welcome! This topic is about a Classic Mini body shell restoration. 1998 MPI model. "Only" 20 years old,but worst then some 50-60 years old vehicle. The shell came to us in a bad state, someone started the work on it,the front end has been removed, they blasted it here and there, but not primed it..... Here comes the pictures: Plastic wheel arch fitted, and checking other bits too.... Inside the front wings:
-All joints sealed -For plastic wheel arches,we use stainless riv-nuts instead of the self tapping screws + stainless bolts AND the fitted riv-nuts having a rubber cap sealed around inside the arches to keep the moisture out …... The work continues...…, here is the story by pictures...:) Now let see what the left side hiding... Welcome! This topic is about body shell restoration to a Mercedes SL190 from 1958. Being 60 years old is not too bad ,but a lot of hours will go into it.... |
