After the engine was rebuilt, refitted it to the chassis and started it up. it was running ok,so we started to move forward and the full strip down for a nut and bolt restoration has begun. The chassis, suspension parts, and the bulkhead has been media blasted and primer coated. The blasting revealed quite a few corroded sections on the chassis and on the bulkhead. Stripped the engine down to bare block, and few issues were discovered...all the valves needed to be replaced and the camshaft were worn badly. The crankshaft were in good condition, and the pistons were also good. Engine components were cleaned, new piston rings fitted, new big end and rod bearings fitted, new timing chain along with the sprockets, and of course all new seals and gaskets, new headbolts and new camshaft. Many of the parts mentioned above are new old stock parts, the date on their package goes back in time to 1956-58. |
