All the hard work done, its time to take a lot of pictures: It was a very successful International Fireman Meeting in May 2009. It was a joy to drive this Little Fire Engine around the town , the Multicar M22 put a smile on everybody's face, and didn't have any problem!
After the meeting finished,we were driving home with a smile on our face as well,(and maybe a teardrop in our eyes too... :) )

The ladder has been done, re-assembled with new cables and rollers, ready to lift it on.... Forgot to mention the joiner has done a brilliant job,he made a new bench, which is a box for equipments as well. Lets lift that ladder and fit it on. Its always good to have a useful truck with a Palfinger crane on it :) Ready for a test drive: Works well. Back to the workshop, fit the windows, front grill, tool box etc...
Engine ,gearbox ,prop shaft fitted, exhaust system has been built and sealed. Temporary fuel supply connected, its time for start it up and check for any leaks,etc.. It was running fine,no leaks anywhere...ican start to build the cabin up and all the rest of the vehicle. Now its time to get the auto electrician around,to re-wire the whole vehicle: Meanwhile I was busy with something else... The ladder needed some attention too, first of all I had to blast it: Repaired, replaced some parts on it and ready to go to the bodyshop for a re -spray:
The bodywork done, and we moved it back to our workshop to do the rest of the works...I had to fit the front and rear axles on the chassis to do some more welding job,for example make brackets for the rear wheel arches and fit them in the right position, make frame and box for the battery etc... Everything done, no more welding, strip it down again and all the bits can go to the bodyshop for having the paintwork done... They started with the chassis and that is back in our workshop now... I can start to do the final reassembling now... Engine & gearbox fitted...
We visited a workshop where the guys doing the bodywork....they are getting there.. :) My friend is dreaming about to drive it.... :D They do a professional job on it....it couldn't be in better hands.... While they worked on the body ,I started to work on the suspension, and some other bits Front axle: Rear axle: Two weeks after our visit in the workshop where they've been working on the body,my friend had a phone call. The boss called him saying the job is done we can pick up the body and the chassis and take it away... Some balance weight required.... :D Put it back on the ramp in our workshop....i have to work on it a bit more before we take it to the bodyshop to do the paintwork... Continue soon... The whole vehicle is in bits now...cause we started this project a bit late,to getting ready for the big event ,the time was too short...(we started in Oct.2008 and the event will be in May 2009)we had 7 months only for the project... We needed some help... We found somebody who is very good to rebuild this kind of engine (this is 0.8 L 2 cyl V ! diesel engine). We cleaned all parts for the engine, bits and bolts has been galvanised, and we boxed everything and took it to the engineer. The body panels were in bad condition, and cause we did not had special tools to do the bodywork,we decided to take it to a workshop (i did work there before),where they restore old vehicles, and they have all the tools to do a professional job... Until they worked on it,we have been chase lots of missing parts for the vehicle, and cleaned, painted all other bits, getting them ready to refit. The engine and gearbox: Engine gone to the engineer, carry on stripping down the chassis, get it ready to take it to the workshop... The chassis, the body panels, and all other bits has been sandblasted, and lots of them resprayed by me. The rebuilt engine has arrived from the engineer... Some bits get ready by me: In 2009 it was an International Firefighter Meeting in Hungary. My best friend ,who is a firefighter in Hungary,he said he would like to have some kind of fire engine for that meeting and exhibition. A couple of years earlier he seen a small fire truck hidden in the end of a big industrial estate. He tought to get that restored, would be great for that meeting....Good idea! So he went to have a look at it again and find its owner. He came back with a success....he bought it. A couple of days later its arrived to his garage. Look at the state of it : In October 2008 the project began.
We knew it has to be a full restoration,no point to do just the part of it.... Started to take it to parts... |
